The Verde Valley Sinfonietta and the Sedona International Film Festival have teamed up to present the original 1923 silent movie version of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” accompanied by a live, 32-piece orchestra!

The 1923 silent movie version of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” will be accompanied by an original arrangement of favorite classical music scores by David Cripps, Music Director/Conductor of the Verde Valley Sinfonietta.

This special event will kick off the Verde Valley Sinfonietta’s 2011-2012 Concert Season and expands the film festival’s Classics Series with a cultural experience unlike any other.

“After the success of our collaboration on ‘Phantom of the Opera’ last year, our audiences were anxious for us present a second event. The Verde Valley Sinfonietta has made this a truly extraordinary partnership and will add a riveting new dimension to experiencing this classic film on the big screen.” - Film Festival Director Patrick Schweiss.

• 10/21 -Festval Opening Exhibition – Kevin Macpherson’s “Reflections on a Pond”
  Special exhibition of 198 paintings executed directly in the landscape records the transformational effects of light and seasons over the course of a year as time moves over the pond near the artists residence. You will be able to watch as the artist wield their brushes to create a painting from start to finish in just two hours. After the quick draw you will have the chance to purchase any of the paintings that inspired you.

If you are going to be visiting the Sedona area October 11th or 12th you do not want to miss your chance to see the award-winning “Life, Above All” presented by the Sedona International Film Festival. This touching and inspiring story can be seen in Sedona on Tuesday, October 11th, 2011 and in Flagstaff on Wednesday, October 12th in the Sedona International Film Festival’s monthly Cinema Series.

“Life, Above All” made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and went on to play at the Toronto International Film Festival and several other prestigious festivals around the world, winning top awards at several of them. It was also selected as the coveted closing night film for the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival.

Directed by South African filmmaker Oliver Schmitz, the film is based on the international award-winning novel Chanda’s Secrets by Allan Stratton. Like the novel it is based on, “Life, Above All” is a story about children who have to take on responsibilities much too early in life and never get to experience a normal childhood. “It is a truly unique film,” says the star of the film Brit Marling. “We were interested in provoking peoples’ imaginations, stirring their sense of wonder. The title sponsor of this special film premiere is The Verde Valley Archaeology Center.
