A Weekend with the Artists in Sedona & Jerome

One of the coolest things about coming to the Sedona-Verde Valley area during the first weekend of every month is the opportunity to attend two different art events. The  Sedona 1st Friday Evening in the Galleries and the Saturday Jerome Art Walk. During both events you have a chance to view the work of  local artists and in some galleries you will often get to meet and talk with the artists themselves. You will find a large variety of mediums including; pottery, oils, blown glass, jewelry and much more. The best thing about them is that they are on different days so that you can enjoy both events to the fullest. So why not treat yourself to a weekend of art! “Save the Art Barn” in Sedona, Arizona

The historic Sedona Art Barn, once a fruit packing shed, became the original home of the Sedona Arts Center in 1961. It is in dire need of restoration. You can help raise the money needed to make the restoration happen without spending a penny! The Sedona Arts Center has entered the Art Barn in the Pepsi Refresh Project, hoping to raise $250,000 to fund the project. Your votes will help them win and give Sedona a better place to “Bring your Imagination to Life!”Watch the video to the left to see what the Art Barn has done to help make the Sedona area the art destination of Arizona why the Sedona Art Barn deserves your vote.

Sedona, Arizona named one of the 21 prettiest towns in America by Forbes, has become the vacation destination for people seeking amazing works of art. It is no wonder that with all the beauty that surrounds Sedona that we have some of the finest artist and craftsmen!

To the artists of Sedona, Arizona –  we would like to thank your for all of the passion and love that you pour into your pieces, overwhelming our senses and letting our imaginations soar. Thank you for having such variety in mediums, styles, techniques and interpretations. There is nothing like walking into a Sedona gallery and being overwhelmed by the magic of the paintings on the walls, the sculpture that surround us, the pottery that amazes us and the jewelry that we must have. Sedona truly has an amazing group of talented artists and craftsmen that have found ways to take the beauty and soul of Sedona and capture glimpses of it in their art.

For this reason, when you come to Sedona, Arizona I highly suggest taking a day and just walking the galleries in Sedona. If you happen to be here on the first Friday of the month, the 1st  Friday Evening  in the Galleries event is a must-do. You will also want to check out any of the local arts and crafts shows where you will find local artists who are more than happy to share information about their craft.

Sedona Arts Center’s new exhibit “Art in Motion”

Miro FitzgeraldWhile you are on vacation in Sedona, Arizona make sure to include the new exhibit “Art in Motion” at the Sedona Arts Center’sMembers Fine Art Gallery, located in Uptown Sedona at the corner of State Rte 89A and Art Barn Road. This exhibit will be showing until March 3, 2010 and features four very talented local artists who are able to captivate the beauty of the world in their own unique styles and mediums. The featured artists are:

  • Miro Fitzgerald
    Known for her plein air paintings
  • Justine Mantor-Waldie
    Known for her creativity with both ink and layering techniques that create captivating desert vistas.
  • George Averbeck
    Specializing in hot glass and lampwork.
  • Joella Jean Mahoney.
    Dramatic large-scale landscapes in oil.

Keep Sedona Beautiful Extends Photo Contest Deadline!

Keep Sedona Beautiful has extended your opportunity to submit entries to their third annual “Capture the Wonder” photo contest. Whether you’re a resident or a visitor to Sedona, dust off that camera or find that great photo you took earlier this year and don’t miss your chance to enter. You now have until January 15, 2010 to submit your color or black and white photos to Keep Sedona Beautiful. All photos will be judged in two divisions: professional and amateur, in the three following categories;

  • Color
  • Black and white
  • Capture the Wonder at Night: focuses on the beauty of Sedona illuminated by the stars and moon.

Sedona’s El Prado by The Creek “Small Treasure” Show

El Prado by the CreekEl Prado by the Creek, a wonderful gallery in the famous Tlaquepaque Art and Crafts Village, is an excellent place to stop this season in Sedona, Arizona.

From December 4th through Christmas eve discover the magic of the miniature at the “Small Treasure” show presented by El Prado. Some of the gallery’s most celebrated artists have created art perfect for gift giving or for art enthusiasts starting their own collection. The opening reception will be held on Friday, December 4th from 5 – 8 pm and the show continues through Christmas Eve. The alabaster candle lamps will be illuminated during the opening reception and during Tlaquepaque’s Festival of Lights on Saturday, December 12th.

While you are visiting El Prado, be sure to spend some time in their dynamic sculpture garden. The garden is filled with amazing copper wind sculptures, soothing sounds from a variety of fountains, and stainless steel sculptures that play in the wind, and more, including the most interesting and surprisingly comfortable rock furniture.
