A Wonderful Day with Mom in Sedona, Arizona

My Mother, a huge art lover, recently came to visit me in Sedona, Arizona. She instantly fell in love with the beautiful rust and limestone colors of the red rocks and the brilliant blue of the sky that serves as the perfect backdrop to the magnificent rocks. We enjoyed a wonderful hike at Bell Rock Pathway, took a fun jeep tour with A Day in the West and enjoyed a delicious lunch at the  Poco Diablo Resort on their covered patio.

Sedona Vacations – A Look into Holidays Past

While you are visiting Sedona, Arizona over the holiday season there are two historic parks close by that will be decked out for the holidays and offer you and your family glimpses into holiday past. The old fashioned ornaments and decor will take you back in time filling your heart with that special holiday warmth.

  • Fort Verde State Historic Park
    Victorian-Style Holidays
    Fort Verde State Historic Park located only 40 minutes from Sedona, will be decorated for the holidays until January 2nd. Your family will enjoy the old time decorations and have a chance to see  how those who once resided at Fort Verde celebrated the holidays on the frontier.   • Riordan Mansion State Historic Park
    “Holiday Tours”
    Riordan Mansion State Historic Park, located at 409 West Riordan Rd in Flagstaff, 37 minutes from Sedona, will be offering “Holiday Tours” until January 3rd, 2011. Riordan Mansion is festively decorated in turn-of-the-century style with wreaths, garlands, greenery and a towering fir tree trimmed with old-fashioned ornaments. Sedona Vacations – Lowell Observatory offers Holiday Skies Program

Learn the mythology and science of the winter sky

While you are visiting Sedona, Arizona on your December family vacation consider taking a day trip to the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff. Located less than an hour from Sedona at 1400 West Mars Hill Road in Flagstaff , the Lowell Observatory is a great way to introduce yourself and you family to the universe at a very reasonable priceand for the month of December on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays they will feature the Holiday Skies Program.

The Holiday Skies Programstarts at 7:00 pm and will offer you and your family a great opportunity to learn and explore the mythology and science of the winter sky, including a discussion of the Star of Bethlehem.

The Lowell Observatory will also  have the Winter Holiday Celebration from December 26th through the 31st! The celebration will include extended open hours (9 :00 am – 9:30 ppm.; on the 31st they close at 5 p.m.) and offer indoor programs and special tours during the day. After dark, numerous telescopes will be set up for viewing celestial objects.

The Red Rose Inspiration for Animals Arts & Craft Show will give a chance to check out some very talented Artists! For those avid readers and inspiring authors the Second Annual Sedona Book Festival will be the perfect event for you. I know I am going to try and do a little of everything, but for sure I’m not going to miss the Ales on the Rail Train on the Verde Canyon Railroad.
