Take a Bird Walk in Sedona with Red Rock State Park

Every Wednesday and Saturday mornings at 7:00 am in the months of June, July & August you can take a guided bird walk with a naturalist at Red Rock State Park. Meet up with other bird lovers at the visitors center and enjoy a leisurely stroll through one of the most popular parks in Northern Arizona. I have taken this hike on several occasions and have enjoyed it every time. I have seen a variety of birds including a Northern Cardinal, Canyon Towhee and many beautiful finches. I am still in search of the Northern Mockingbird that will on rare occasions be present at the park in the summer. If you happen to see one, please let me know.

Tips

  • Times and days vary for guided hikes by season. Contact the park for schedule changes.
  • Some binoculars are available at the park. I suggest bringing your own.
  • Bring water when hiking in the park. Even if you are only planning a short hike, water is essential.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate layered clothing.
  • Respect the park. Do not remove anything from the park and leave no evidence of being there.

To contact the park about schedules, or reservations for some of their most popular hikes, call 928.282.6907 or visit Red Rock State Park.

Things to do your first time visiting Sedona, Arizona

I remember my first visit to Sedona, Arizona like it was yesterday. It was in the middle of summer and I was living in Mesa, Arizona. I was hot and needed to get away! Some friends told me and my partner about Sedona and since it was only a couple of hours away we grabbed a few things and headed to the cooler high ground. We were blown away by the red rock formations and the crystal clear blue sky, but we weren’t quite sure what to do first. We called some friends for advice and they suggested that we hop on the Sedona Trolley to get the best introduction to Sedona. So that’s where we started. Now that I have been here for a while, here are my best recommendations for your first visit to Sedona.

Things to do in Sedona – Exploring your own Creativity

For many years artists have flocked to Sedona to capture the beauty, inspiration and energy of the red rocks. There are galleries, specialty shops and exhibits throughout Sedona and the Verde Valley that cover a broad range of mediums, styles, textures and creativity of these artists to view, buy, admire or even to serve as a inspiration to your own creativity. That is exactly what happened to me.

You do not have to be a master of the arts to enjoy the spiritual stirrings and satisfactions of creating your own art. I do not mean art to hang in a gallery, or sell in a show, but art you create just for you. One day when I was visiting Sedona I happened upon a gallery and was so inspired by some of the “plein air” being exhibited from the “plein air” festival in Sedona this year that I decided to take a journey into the Sedona red rocks, sketch pad in hand, to see what my spirit would create. Now being someone who has only worked with pottery, I was definitely approaching this adventure with a lot of heart and little knowledge. I ended up going to Red Rock State Park in Sedona at 4050 Red Rock Loop Rd. It has always been one of my favorite places in Sedona to hike, and it offers great views of the red rocks and has some cool desert flora.
