Out of Africa Wildlife Park, a favorite Sedona attraction is home to two amazing Grizzly Bears! Aspen and Cypress, Grizzly Bear cubs, turned 3 years old on August 1st of this year. Dean and Prayeri Harrison, the founders of Out of Africa Wildlife Park, in Camp Verde Arizona, rescued them from life in a 10 square foot cage in a taxidermist’s back yard about 2 years ago.
The two bears arrived at the park in good condition, but they were ready to stretch their legs. When they were released into their new habitat, they burst out in utter exuberance, running and playing all night and into the next day. To this day they seem to be perpetual motion machines, overjoyed with their new life. On hot days, they are in and out of their private pond playing with each other and their toys. Even in winter they are still active – apparently they don’t believe in hibernation.
You can meet Aspen and Cypress any day at Out of Africa Park, but every Saturday at 3:00 pm, you can watch them perform in the “Wonders of Wildlife Show” where they playfully chase their caretakers around the pool, belly flopping for the audience, and take grapes out of their caretaker’s mouths. It is a sight to be seen! We’re sure you’ll enjoy them on your next visit to Out of Africa Park, just 40 minutes south of Sedona and 90 minutes north of Phoenix, right off Route 260 in Camp Verde.
