Select Saturday evenings feature the Verde Canyon Railroads very popular Starlight Tours. The Tequila Sunset Limited and the Grape Train Escapes (wine-tasting trains) highlight these moonlit evenings throughout the summer. The train departs the depot at 5:30 pm. and as it rumbles through the Canyon, the low slant of sun bathes the high cliffs in soft golden hues. The train reaches the turn-around point of Perkinsville amid a scandalous sunset. Red Rock State Park – Guided Bird Walk
June 30th, 2012 (7:00 am)
Join a naturalist for a “Guided Bird Walk”. Beginning as well as advanced birders are welcome. Rangers recommend that visitors bring their own binoculars. A limited number are available for loan from the Park. No matter the time of day, visitors can check out the many birds who make Red Rock State Park their home. The bird-feeding area behind the visitor center, on the Hummingbird Patio, is an excellent spot to start your tour or to take pictures. Hummingbirds are almost always there to take advantage of the feeders! Another good viewing point is the visitor center roof. Most of the year-round birds are found in the riparian area next to Oak Creek or along the field that is behind the visitor center. Museum of Northern Arizona - 79th Annual Hopi Festival of Arts and Culture
June 30th & July 1st, 2012
A Fourth of July tradition since the 1930s, award-winning Hopi artists from the twelve Hopi villages bring the mesas to Flagstaff. Add map of Hopi The unique work of carvers, painters, jewelers, potters, quilters, and basket and textile weavers fill the more than 65 artists’ booths. Enjoy cultural presentations, storytelling, music, and dances that fill the Museum grounds during the Fourth of July weekend. Taste Hopi bread and piki baked outside in ovens. Watch Hopi pottery being shaped, painted, and traditionally fired. Walk the Museum’s Rio de Flag Nature Trail with a Hopi medicine woman. Learn about Hopi clans and clan migration, and how the tribe is working to preserve language and agricultural traditions.
