Dead Horse Ranch State Park – “Star Night Party”
June 23rd, 2012
This day of star gazing kicks off at 3:00 pm where visitors have the opportunity to safely view the the sun through very special solar telescopes. This special viewing will go until 6: 00 pm.Then at 8:00 pm join astronomers as they volunteer their expertise, experience and telescopes to take you on a journey into the amazing night skies to view star clusters, galaxies and nebulae. If you are planning to attend this event, it is recommended the you bring a folding chair, a red light (mini red LED flashlights will be available for a small donation; red light protects everyone’s night vision) and a sweater or jacket. There is a $7 entrance fee to the park per vehicle (up to four adults). Meet up with other astronomy buffs Near the Eastern Lagoon & Woodpecker Circle. Red Rock State Park – Guided Bird Walk
June 23rd, 2012 (7:00 am)
Join a naturalist for a “Guided Bird Walk”. Beginning as well as advanced birders are welcome. Rangers recommend that visitors bring their own binoculars. A limited number are available for loan from the Park. No matter the time of day, visitors can check out the many birds who make Red Rock State Park their home. The bird-feeding area behind the visitor center, on the Hummingbird Patio, is an excellent spot to start your tour or to take pictures. Hummingbirds are almost always there to take advantage of the feeders! Another good viewing point is the visitor center roof. Most of the year-round birds are found in the riparian area next to Oak Creek or along the field that is behind the visitor center. While visitors hike the trails, they will see many birds who call the Park “home. For more information please visit Red Rock State Park.
