A springtime ride aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad will bring a flush of color to your cheeks. It will awaken your senses, including your sense of adventure. Suddenly your whole world will become more vivid. Satisy your quest for discovery during this magical time of year from the classic vantage point of the Verde Canyon Railroad.
The red rocks of the Canyon are always spectacular but during Spring in Bloom the rugged rock palette becomes brilliant with new shades of blue, magenta, yellow, white and red. Blooming succulents, cacti and native wildflowers caress the native landscape.
Even as you arrive at the depot, spring jumps right into your lap as the trackside fence overflows with delicate Lady Banks roses. This adobe-style structure presides over manicured landscaping and shaded patios. The Copper Spike Cafe will tempt your appetite with a range of traditional to southwestern specialties. Local artists vie for space with travel essentials and chic fashions in the Boxcar Gift Shop. Housed in a remodeled boxcar, the John Bell Museum connects the rails to the town and mining industry for which the railroad was built. All provide a hospitable setting for the journey to come.
Plush train accommodations fit nicely with the pristine wilderness along the route. Sinking into overstuffed love seats, you will enjoy a full-service bar and complimentary appetizers as panoramic canyon views pass by at a mere 15 m.p.h.. As the tension of the outside world fades from view, the destination becomes less important. It is all about the journey, the relaxation and the pampering.
The Verde Canyon Railroad runs every day except Tuesdays, departing at 1 p.m. and returning at 4:30 p.m., just in time to enjoy the best plate of chicken and ribs in this part of Arizona at the Blazin’ M Ranch. Frontier activities are open at 4 p.m. until the dinner bell rings at 6:30 p.m.. The new Blazin’ M Cowboy band starts at 7:30 p.m. with music and laughter for a solid hour. Come join the fun at the newly remodeled Blazin’ M Ranch Wild West Adventure in nearby Cottonwood.
