Come dancing at the depot during this free event on Saturday from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.

Arizona Events: 2013 Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival

Attention all bird and nature lovers, the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival is close at hand! The Verde Valley is home to many species of birds and normally at the festival over a 100 species of birds are seen including herons, cardinals, tanagers, warblers, hawks and egrets to only name a few.

The festival celebrates nature with workshops and field trips where expert guides take visitors to the area’s birding hot spots.  There will also be a Free Family Nature Fair taking place on Saturday, April 27th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm featuring games & activities, and free walks and presentations! The Festival will be taking place this year at the beautiful Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood, Arizona (see map below for directions from Sedona).

If you are going to be in the Sedona and Verde River Valley area during this event Red Rock State Park, and Dead Horse Ranch State Park are the guided hikes you will want to look into taking.

If you are going to be in the Sedona and Verde River Valley area this Thursday, November 15th, 2012, make sure not to miss Liberty Wildlife at the Verde Canyon Railroad!

 Handlers from Liberty Wildlife will be presenting a variety of raptors and native “critters” at the Verde Canyon depot. The handlers will answer questions and pose for photos during the depot patio presentations. This event is open to the public and takes place from 11:00 am until 1:30 pm.

3rd Annual Great Arizona Grape Stomp in Cottonwood, Arizona

While you are visiting Sedona and the Verde River Valley on October 6th, 2012, make sure to check out the 3rd Annual Grape Sto5k Walk/Runmp  taking place in Olde Town Cottonwood. This event will benefit the Arizona Wine Growers Association. The run will begin at 8:00 am at Lyons Park on the corner of Willard and N. Main Street, continue on to Dead Horse Ranch State Park, and finish in the heart of Old Town Cottonwood.

Registration is $35.00 and participants can register online at the Arizona Wine Growers Association or you may register the day of the event from 6:00 am – 7:45 am at RIOT in Old Town Cottonwood. The Red Rooster Café will be open for dinner the night before the event, where registration will also be taking place from 5:00pm-8:00pm with live music, dinner specials and 10% off regular menu prices for 5K registrants. Runner’s registration packets will be available for pick up at RIOT, the morning of the event, beginning at 6:00 am.
