There are so many things to do and see while you’re in the Sedona-Verde Valley area that you might just decide to extend your stay to see them all! But just in case you can’t, I have put together a list of my top ten favorite things to do in Sedona including tours, historical sites, hikes and recreation. While all of my favorites might not match your personality, I hope it will at least give you some ideas so that you can get the most out of your time here in Sedona.
1. Hiking
I enjoy hiking with my friends. My favorite hike is Bell Rock Pathway. You’ll get to see great panoramic views of the red rock formations in Sedona.
2. Horseback riding
A Day in the West offers cool horseback riding tours that really give you the feeling of being on a western adventure!
3. ATVs
Riding an ATV through West Sedona is high on my list as well. Don’t worry if you haven’t driven an ATV before, the nice folks at Arizona Outdoor Adventures will train you before you ride out on one of their ATVs.
4. Exploring history
I enjoy exploring the past. If you love history, especially Native American history, check out these historical sites Montezuma Castle, Palatki Heritage Site, Honanki Heritage Site, Wupatki National Monument and the V-Bar-V Heritage Site.
5. Train rides
Riding the rails on the Verde Canyon Railroad into one of the most scenic areas in the Verde Valley is a must do. It is a blast to ride the train and spend some time out in their open air cars and witness the abundant wildlife in the area including the American Bald Eagle.
6. Sunsets
The sunsets in Sedona are absolutely beautiful. The crimson colors of the sunsets play well against the red rocks of Sedona and the change in lighting breaths life into the rocks. The best place to see the sunset is at the Sedona Airport Mesa.
7. Sedona Trolley
Coming to Sedona for the first time? Start with the Sedona Trolley. It is the best first thing to do in Sedona.
8. Art Expeditions
Into art? Take a day to explore the amazing galleries in Sedona. When it comes to exploring the world of art in Sedona, the Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village is the place to be. Originally conceived as an artist community, Tlaquepaque is a perfect setting to witness gifted artisans absorbed in their work.
9. Fishing
Believe it or not you can fish right here in Sedona! I love the peaceful serenity that fishing in Oak Creek offers. Not only is there great scenery while you fish but I have caught many trout here. Okay, truth be told, I haven’t caught many but a few pretty good ones.
10.Wineries
You might be surprised how amazingly good and abundant the wineries are in the Sedona-Verde Valley area. I would suggest taking a guided wine tour of the area, or if you have a designated driver available, check out the Verde Valley Wine Trail. Here are some Sedona tour companies offering guided wine tours: A Day in the West, Sedona Wine Country Tours & Sedona Adventure Tours.
